Micro - Interactions
To better understand the needs and challenges of postpartum mothers, I conducted one-on-one interviews with individuals who had recently given birth. These conversations aimed to uncover emotional and physical pain points, gaps in existing fitness tools, and expectations from a postpartum wellness app. The insights gathered played a crucial role in shaping the core features and tone of Revive.
Interview questions
Can you walk me through your current fitness or wellness routine since giving birth?
What barriers have you faced when trying to stay active during your postpartum period?
Have you used any wellness or fitness apps? What worked and what didn’t?
How do you define “wellness” for yourself postpartum — is it just physical, or more holistic?
What features or support systems would make you feel more confident about resuming fitness?
Key Takeaways
Lack of personalization: Most participants felt current apps weren’t designed with postpartum needs in mind.
Time constraints: New mothers cited lack of time and energy as major barriers to regular exercise.
Holistic needs: Interviewees emphasized the importance of mental well-being alongside physical recovery.
Desire for community: Many mothers expressed interest in connecting with others going through similar experiences.
Progress tracking: Simple, gentle progress indicators were preferred over performance-based metrics.
Based on two distinct user personas - Gloria and Claire, both mothers with different priorities and family structures. I created user journeys to explore how their unique needs shape design decisions. Gloria is an experienced mother with a young child and a newborn, while Claire is a first-time mom navigating early parenthood. Their contrasting lifestyles and responsibilities highlight key design considerations, such as ease of access, emotional reassurance, and time-saving features.
Below, you will see the detailed personas of Gloria and Claire, which directly inform and ground the user journey decisions.
