Problem

The MyCourses platform is essential for student learning, but navigating coursework, tracking progress, and collaborating with peers can feel disjointed. This redesign focuses on improving usability, enhancing collaboration tools, and creating a more intuitive experience that supports seamless communication and engagement.

Solution

MyCourses lacked seamless collaboration, limiting peer interaction outside formal group projects. Navigating assignments, resources, and grades required excessive clicks, creating a frustrating user experience. Additionally, course materials were disconnected from tasks, making it difficult to apply resources effectively.

Goals

  • Create a collaborative environment where students can engage with peers and resources.

  • Design a streamlined, intuitive assignment workflow with interconnected content.

  • Enhance the overall visual and functional design to make the platform engaging and user-friendly.

Survey questions

  • How easy is it to collaborate with your peers on assignments or resources in MyCourses?

  • Do you feel that MyCourses facilitates meaningful discussions between students on resources shared by faculty (e.g., PDFs, videos, notes)?

  • How useful would it be if MyCourses allowed real-time commenting on shared resources (e.g., PDFs, videos) for collaboration?

  • Do you feel that the current platform supports peer-to-peer learning (e.g., asking questions, discussing content)?

Key Takeaways

  • Limited Peer Interaction: Lack of tools for discussion and communication hampers peer-to-peer learning.

  • No Collaboration on Resources: Students can't engage with shared materials through comments or feedback, leading to passive learning.

  • Demand for Real-Time Features: Real-time commenting on resources (e.g., PDFs, videos) is highly desired and would foster more collaborative learning.
